Anne Tilby - Artist & Production Designer
Anne Tilby has a background in production design for film and opera, sets and costumes. Her projects include comedy series’ Father Ted, Spitting Image and Sticky Moments starring Julian Clary.
She has designed operas internationally in Turkey, Chicago, Madrid, London, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and for the English National Opera. Tilby received a BAFTA nomination for Alice Through The Looking Glass,1998, an RFTS nomination for Brazen Hussies (with Robert Lindsey and Julie Walters) plus other design awards. Combining artwork with film and opera design, has cross-fertilized, informed and enabled mixed media works.
Tilby uses humour in her artwork to confront our values, TWIN CHEEKS a printmaking performance and book comprising forty painted backsides; early work during the late 1970s featured edible fashion - PRET A PORTER /PRET A MANGER addressing the diet obsession, FAG presented a satirical collection of cigarette-butt portraits and TORTURED SOLES, 2012 a collection of thirty-five unwearable art shoes taking aim at women’s preoccupation with crippling footwear exhibited in from London's Hoxton, Soho, Covent Garden to Scotland, in 2019 at the Tech Amergin,Waterville.
Tilby devised the Trash Factory Project in 2000, to address the deluge of plastic pollution, running creative workshops in schools, community, at the Science Museum, and in art galleries.
Included in Tilby’s exhibition The Boatyard: An Bádchlós are recycled artifacts, original prints, a sound installation and a 100-year-old sail with a moving history.
BOATYARD was shown at the Ballymaloe Grainstore Co.Cork over June 2019.
